Development of an Inventory for Child`s Image about the Father

Abstract
|
|
|
The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument for child’s image about the father. The preliminary survey was performed for 400 child in the areas of Seoul, Gyungi, and Chungnam. It was a free-writing style survey for child’s image, feeling, and thoughts about their father. The main survey which included 117 contents were performed for 900 students in Seoul, Gyungi, and Chungnam. Finally, 53 contents were selected by the results of factor analysis and contents validation. The contents were categorized into 9 sub-variables based on previous studies. The nine sub-variables are Father who is
respected, Father who is devoted to his parents, Father who is very domestic, Father as a supporter, Father as a friend, Father with competence, Father who is helping school activities, Father who is exhausted with work, Father as a energetic man. This study showed a construct validity since the correlations among the sub-variables and total score were high. The concurrent evidence was also confirmed because the correlation between the developed instrument and previous instrument was high in this study.
